Collection: Jamdani Collection

Jamdani is a historic, intricately handwoven textile art originating from undivided Bengal (now Bangladesh and India). Known as the finest variety of muslin, it is a labor-intensive "supplementary weft" technique where decorative motifs are hand-inlaid into the sheer base fabric while it is still on the loom.

The base material is woven normally, but heavier, colored, gold, or silver threads are manually interwoven to create designs. Patterns aren't traced or sketched on the fabric. Weavers often refer to translucent graph paper placed under the warp or weave from memory.  Small spools and bamboo sticks are used to pass threads through the weft, making the motifs appear to "float" on the sheer background.
